i am frustrated with this book. The writing is technically ok except for many typos; the story seems like it might be interesting, BUT, how can 2 of the 3 characters in the beginning FORGET, repeatedly, that an assassin is trying to kill them? The one character forgetting i could see since she is new to the scene and has no clue of the reality of the place, but the other two live there and know - yet all 3 keep forgetting about this one very important fact and it makes the whole story unbelievable. I cannot get interested in stupid characters, and tho they don't appear stupid otherwise, only stupidity would let 3 different, individually strong & even powerful people keep ignoring the fact that someone is attempting to kill and torture them. As i said i'm frustrated because i'd like to know how the story plays out but i can't get past this.
it is also WAY too gory graphic for my taste - needlessly, as it adds nothing to the storyline. I've managed to get 1/2 way thru the book but not going to finish it - just too silly & quite frustrating on various levels. I might have enjoyed this when i was 10, tho i didn't like dumb characters or gratuitous violence even then.

I liked the whole concept of the 2 worlds and the magic involved. Looking forward to the next book! Can't wait to read it!
I loved this book. I could hardly put it down. There were so many twists and turns which led to many surprises. I highly recommend this book and can't wait to read the sequel.
Old school fantasy with a very likable cast. It was fun reading and the only reason I gave it 4 stars was because of a lot of grammar errors that took away from the flow of the tale.
I really enjoyed this book. I needed something to help my imagination fly. This did it. Oh how I wish magic was capable, like in the story. After reading, there is no doubt that magic exists.
You will sincerely enjoy the adventures and suspense. There is even love. Such romance. Thank you Marlene Wynn for this great book. I have to get the continuation.
I read very little of this book before I got disgusted and gave up. The writing is very poor and the Author has no faith in her storytelling ability. She beats us over the head with explanation after explanation, then she explained the explanations!
The characters are completely exasperating. Forgetting someone tried to kill you and wandering off into the woods...maybe for one stupid character, but for all of them? I'm guessing the author did not know how to push the story forward in a coherent manner and simply welded bits of story together in an ugly and distracting way.
The super powered lead character and the driving focus of the story being all about developing the same character, this as a typical Mary Sue tale. It is fun enough to while away a lazy weekend, but lacks the depth of a classic. This is not a story that I would expect to see on book store shelves twenty years hence. I will not continue the series, but do not consider the time spent reading this story wasted.

A very good effort for a new author. I hope that she will continue to work at her craft, hone her world building, and grow into her potential. I hope to read more from her in the future.
Marlene Wynn has written a captivating story about the young when of Itovia who was sent through a portal to earth to survive the blood bath that took the lives of her parents and their soldiers and retainers. When the magic spell that sent her to earth drew her back, Chandrea knew nothing about her home world or her heritage or about being a queen and sorceress. Wynn has done a marvelous job of thinking through what such a young, just graduated from college, American woman would experience for the first time in an unfamiliar world.

I loved Chandrea’s companions too including her guardian, Adelaide, and her new friend Denae. animal partners, Tadia, her teratorn (giant bird), and her mohr cat, Amir, plus Denae's fiancé, Ian. Chandrea new boyfriend, Shawn Quinn Tooley, was a source of constant fascination because of his quirky sense of humor as well as his variety of creatures he could shape shift into, not the least of which is a hafaba, one of the dragon breeds. While I question the wisdom of leaving an arch enemy like Queen Leilah alive it points to more exciting adventures ahead.
